Empire State Building - New York

The last place I decided to see a landmark in the United States. I tried to find the Grand Canyons, no luck. So I searched New York and found a replica of the Empire State Building, although I believe they called it the Umpire State Building in Second Life. I checked out the Directory, which showed only certain floors you could visit. The second floor had a stage for a live band and the 33rd floor was the Hanja Ball Court. The 128th floor was, of course, the observatory floor. I was disappointed because there was nothing to see on the observatory floor so I took a snapshot outside the building.

Opera House in Australia

Next, I went to Australia. There was a dial with different landmarks in Australia and saw the Opera House, which I teleported myself to. I have always found the design of the Opera House as one of most fascinating architecture ever built. I walked around a little bit and then went inside. One of the rooms had a small stage with about 60 seats. There was also the Robbiani Art Gallery. The snapshot was inside the concert hall with people sitting watching the Sydney Orchestra, which I thought was a great picture. I also tried to sit down in one of the seats that said, “sit here”, but I could not figure out how to get the avatar to sit down.

Great Wall of China

This one I did a search for China. I found China, Sichaun – Land of the Great Wall of China. I walked the entire length of the wall and the scenery was beautiful. It was captivating just listening to the waves crashing against the coastline, the sounds of crickets, birds, and church bells. Although, it sounded like church bells, but I could not find where the sound was coming from. All around the wall are different open rooms, decorated with China flags, fans, and cushions to sit on the floor. I decided to take a snapshot of part of the Great Wall.

Greece, Macedonia

I started to look for places that I would like to visit in real life someday so I entered Greece. I basically walked around to see the sights and came upon this museum. Across from the museum is a statue of Alexander the Great on a horse. Right outside the museum are fire caldrons that were lit. Inside the museum, the snapshot I took was portraits of famous Greek men on the one side and the other is a portrait of people from ancient Greece.

Church in Kensington, England

This is my first snapshot. In the beginning, I did not know how to use the search engine. I finally realized to enter just a country or city. I was originally looking for Kensington Palace because I thought it would be interesting to see a remake of the palace in the virtual world. But I was unable to find the palace. Yet, I was able to find this church in Kensington, England that features amazing art décor in the glass windows. I was going to take a picture from the ground, but I liked the view while in the flying mode.

Sistine Chapel on Vassar's virtual campus

I went to the Sistine Chapel, which was used in the example in our class meeting. I was surprised at how easy it was to find.
I tried flying this time and it was fun but I kept banging my head on the ceiling! Avatars need eyes in the back of their heads. That's my avatar's head in the picture. Nice hat, right?
Some other avatars approached my avatar and I think it's very strange but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

I started out going to the Guinness Brewing company in Dublin on Saint Patrick's Day and ended up across the street at the cathedral! I guess I don't really know how to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in the traditional way - don't think its usually in church. This was my first experience in Second Life and it was interesting but I'll need to give it more time since at this point I don't think its something I'll spend a lot of time in. I do enjoy trying new things!
